All across rural areas of Northeast Wisconsin you'll find picturesque farms, with barns surrounded by fields and a charming farmhouse situated in the middle of the property. And although traditional farmhouses certainly may be more a thing of the past than the future, we are seeing design elements being borrowed from this bygone era. A recent trend towards modern Farmhouse-style homes has brought back the prominence of the barn door, a large door hung on a track to close off spaces. Like most style revivals, the barn door has taken on a modern twist. No longer does a barn door simply mean a barn door.
Let's start with the original, your prototypical barn door. Made from rustic wood with cross bracing board holding it together. This style of door is what most people think of when they hear "barn door." It makes a great conversation piece and is without a doubt farmhouse style.
Closely related to the original is the painted version of the traditional barn door. While still showing the telltale boards and cross bracing, the painted finish gives the door a slightly more polished feel. This helps the door to more closely tie in with other doors in the home.
Another route is to use the same style of door as the rest of the home and simply hang it on a barn door track. This will give the space a more contemporary feel.
French doors are a common request for office areas, but putting them on a barn door track is a more recent twist. This gives the space a unique look and function, but still is rooted in a traditional style.
While your typical 15-lite french door style is classic, some people want to be a bit more contemporary with their style. This 6-pane modern farmhouse barn door makes a bold statement.
Whether for sentimental reasons or just for a conversation piece, repurposing an old door makes for a one-of-a-kind feature in your home. There is something special about incorporating historic pieces into a new space.
While this post featured a number of different barn door styles Cypress Homes has installed, this is only scratching the surface of possibilities. The exciting thing about today's barn doors is each one can be completely unique. Barn doors are functional, but they also can be a so much more. We're really excited to help incorporate both traditional styles and current trends within this modern-farmhouse style. As always, when you work with our in-house and dedicated design team, they can help you personalize such doors and spaces within any of our models.
