Extremely cold Wisconsin winters and hot humid summers can cause your electric bills to sore through the roof. The average household spends more than $2,200 a year on these energy bills, nearly half of which goes to heating and cooling. At Cypress Homes Inc. our Focus on Energy certified homes guarantee that we deliver you savings without sacrificing comfort.
Trane 7-day Programmable Thermostat
The initial cost of the programmable thermostat is about $150, but the money saved over the initial 1-2 years of usage can offset that initial cost. A programmable thermostat helps make it easy for you to save by offering pre-programmed settings to regulate your home’s temperature in both summer and winter whether you are home, asleep, or away.
5 Tips for Proper Programming to Save Energy and Money
- Keep the default temperatures if you can. If you do change default settings, raises the temperature setting by 7 degrees when you’re away and 4 degrees when you’re asleep in the cooling months. During the heating months, lower the setting by 8 degrees when you’re away or asleep.
- Use energy-saving temperatures for at least eight hours. Examples of this are times during the day when no one is at home and after bedtime.
- Chose your times accurately. If you want your house to be cool by the time you wake up make sure you program your thermostat before you actually want the house cool.
- Make changes during vacations. You won’t want to have your house at your normal temperature while you’re away, so programming your thermostat while you’re gone will allow you to save energy.
- Read the manual. Reading the manual may become tedious but it will give you all the information you are looking for.
