Psychology 101: Personality Differences Between Men and Women
November 11, 2011

We all know the saying “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.” Although we are all human, men and women tend to think, speak, and act differently. Below are a few examples from various studies that you might find mind-boggling.
1. Men tend to have a “fight or flight” reaction to stress, where as women approach these situations with a “tend and befriend” strategy. During times of stress, women take care of themselves (and their children) and also form bonds more easily (befriending)
2. According to studies made at Northwestern University, men change their mind two to three times more often than women. Most women, however, take longer to make a decision than men do. But once they make a decision, they are most likely to stick to it.
3. Men and women perceive pain differently. In studies, women require more morphine than men to receive the same sense of pain reduction. Women are also more likely to vocalize their pain and seek treatment for their pain than are men.
4. Men handle children more physically and robustly than women (bounce around more).
5. Because of the way men and women use the two hemispheres of the brain differently, there are some disorders than men and women are susceptible to in different ways. Men are more likely to have dyslexia or other language problems. On the other hand, women are more likely to have mood disorders, such as depression or anxiety.
6. To feel a sense of achievement, men must accomplish goals by themselves. Women typically don’t mind little bit of help along the way.
7. Approximately 7{447216cae66a4d332ab0ac71eb11e27716218036a4f422ac40162b059a195e14} of the male population cannot distinguish between red and green, or they see those colors differently than other people. This is the most common form of color blindness. However, it affects only approximately .4{447216cae66a4d332ab0ac71eb11e27716218036a4f422ac40162b059a195e14} of women.
